Poul Madsen - Words and Images
Words make up stories
Images inspire
Together they create life
Words come alive when images are added. And vice versa. Images tell a story and I use images to document what the world looks like. Since I got a digital camera, I have always brought a camera with me when travelling. It has created a database of 150,000 photos. I always have a photo, if somebody needs something in particular. Most images are digital, however, there are many old scanned photos. I frequently use photos when designing websites, whether my own or customer websites.
From early on, in school I started writing. When I could twist the topic of an essay assignment to suit my wishes, I could write about whatever I wanted to write about. Usually, I would pick the content from my imaginative fantasy world. As a teenager, I started on writing a diary. Some years got more attention than others. Latest, for the year 2024 I typed 150,000 words - enough for two novels by Agatha Christie.

Ireland - The Emerald Isle
For years, I have lived on the Emerald Isle.
It is also known as Ireland. In Danish, it's called the Green Island.
I have had the privilege of being able to criss cross the island
with my wife many, many times. She is the one with an urge to explore
the wild west, and it is I who finds new things to see. Ireland is
dotted with picturesque
villages and pubs everywhere. I use my blog of words and images to show
case Ireland and to tell about all what attracts Danes and other people to
this island: nature, culture, music - and of course Irish whiskey.

Family and Heritage
My passion for writing didn't come from strangers.
My father wrote a lot of booklets about our ancestors. Together with my mother,
they build up a collection of photos, some dating as far back as the 1860s.
My father had no computer nor a scanner. He had to photo copy all his booklets.
My task, as I see it, has been to digitize it all and make the
library available
for all members of the family and the public. A handover for the future. Very
often I have read booklets and have been thinking: "Why do we not know what was
on their minds, how they felt, what they ate, how were they amused - and what
were their perils?

Jonstrup, Værløse and the air base
I was born in Jonstrup just outside the fence
of Air Base Værløse. Later, my family moved to Little Værløse town.
I worked at the air base and spent my day inside the fence.
Inspired by the years, I finished an e-book in 2024 about
the air base (click Read the e-book). At the moment I'm working on an e-book about
my childhood in Jonstrup. It's to be finished in 2026. It's about how we
played, about going to school at the Seven Star School and about the Red Square
(The Town Centre). The trilogy is to be completed with an e-book about my
youth in Værløse.

The Travelling Bears
It's incredible what can be accomplished with a
camera and a couple of bears. Since year 2000 I have brought both a camera and
bears when travelling. It has resulted in a ton of stories about the blooming
life of the bears on their very own website. The website is international and
hence written in English, however, the content has a universal language. The
great challenge for me has of course always been to ignore the many curios
faces and their giggling every time I set up the bears for a photo shoot out in
front of famous tourist attractions.
